The DLA-NZ700/DLA-NZ500 are the 2024 models of the D-ILA projector series, which the JVC brand is selling in overseas markets (in Japan, they are sold under the Victor brand as the DLA-Z7). JVC Kenwood Design handled the product design, and by completely redesigning the optical unit, lens, circuit board, and other components, they have achieved the world's smallest native 4K compatible home theater projector. Having won the iF DESIGN AWARD 2025 in the product category and the 2024 Good Design Award, the projector has received high praise both in Japan and overseas.

A pure design approach that inherits the series' identity

The "D-ILA Device" is a reflective liquid crystal element developed independently by JVCKENWOOD, which has been continuously developed and produced in Japan for over 20 years since the development of the first model in 1997. Based on the concept of "exploring the original image," projectors using the "D-ILA Device" are products that pursue visual beauty that fully expresses the content creators' passion for images, and continue to receive high praise not only in Japan but also in overseas markets, particularly in the United States and Europe.

The DLA-NZ700/DLA-NZ500 are the entry-level models in this series, which went on sale in 2024. The design philosophy is to express the series' identity, the optical axis projected straight from the lens, and the product pursues a pure design approach that gives it the appearance of an authentic product.

A minimalist housing with a focus on functional beauty and a long-life design

The interior design of this model has been completely revised from scratch, and the intake and exhaust system for cooling the aircraft has been completely redesigned, with an airflow that takes in air from the front and exhausts it towards the rear. As with the optical axis, we have focused on a design approach that pursues functional beauty, and by making the shape symmetrical from front to back and left to right, we have achieved a design that matches the flow of intake and exhaust.

Furthermore, to ensure that the projector blends seamlessly with the space it is used in as a home theater projector, we have pursued beautiful curves that create smooth gradations of shadow. Utilizing the accumulated knowledge of our designers, we have implemented a minimalist design that does not reveal any artificiality or handiwork by the designers, by using rounded corners that correct the bulges and depressions that occur due to optical illusions.

These design approaches, which pursue functional beauty, are also a challenge to create product designs that will not get old over time. By incorporating ingenuity into the product's shape and details to ensure it does not feel trendy, we aimed to create a long-lasting design that will not be affected by the times.
