Design thinking workshop held for employees
JVCKENWOOD is promoting "customer-centric design management" and encouraging employees to use design thinking. As designers and the Corporate Planning Department, we have created a handbook as a learning opportunity and made it available to all employees.
To further deepen their understanding, we held a "Workshop to Learn and Experience Design Thinking" together with the Human Resources Department as part of our design management training. On the day, the team members freely discussed and came up with ideas, creating a lively and lively atmosphere. We would like to share with you what the event was like.
What kind of workshop?
The program consisted of two parts: a lecture and a workshop. After learning about the outline of design management and design thinking in the lecture, participants experienced the practical design thinking process.
The designers participated as "main facilitators" who moderated the event and "sub-facilitators" who stimulated discussion, and were responsible for supporting the participants.
Key points from the workshop
The key point of the workshop is to "unearth insights" hidden in the minds of target customers through "survey analysis."
We explained the importance of observing the target customers and empathizing with their feelings, and had them work carefully on the task.

Scenes from the training
The workshop focused not only on individual work, but also on teamwork. Through co-creation with other members, participants were able to discover fresh perspectives, expand on concepts and ideas that went beyond existing frameworks, and then examine them from a critical and objective perspective. Everyone actively participated in the work, challenging themselves to bring out each other's creativity.

What the workshop offered

We asked the designers who are part of the organizing team what this workshop was able to offer.
What lessons did you learn and what insights did you give to the participants in this workshop?
I hope that you were able to interpret the vague term "design thinking" in your own way. In the participant survey, I noticed that there were many comments about the team thinking process. I think that this helped participants to rediscover the fun and effectiveness of being able to explore things from a variety of perspectives.
What effects have you seen in terms of human resource development?
At the end of the workshop, we had time for reflection and asked participants to write down how they would use what they learned. I think the greatest outcome will be for each participant to put into practice what they declared, gradually internalize the concept of design thinking, and spread it to those around them.
What did you learn from running the workshop?
The workshop was run in accordance with the steps of design thinking: observe the participants, set out tasks, come up with improvement plans, and then put them into practice at the next workshop. By repeating this process, we felt we were able to reduce any unclear points that arose during the workshop. We realized that, just like with the content of the workshop, it is important to be considerate of the participants' feelings.
What we think about the future"Creative space"
Toward realizing our corporate philosophy of "Bringing excitement and peace of mind to people around the world," we will continue to hold these design thinking workshops and further expand their practical application. We also plan to plan and hold more advanced workshops (design management training) that will enable more employees to learn the basics of design thinking and think about and create future businesses. We will also hold workshops that focus on specific themes, similar to the "Future Creation Training" currently being implemented for affiliated companies. We hope that what we learn in these workshops will empower our employees to "create value" in their work, and that the experience of co-creation activities in the workshops will lead to "promoting communication" and "fostering a culture of mutual growth."
